Jakarta, 12 March 2026 – The transition to a greener economy should create opportunities for everyone, including persons with disabilities. This was the key message brought by the ASEAN Disability Forum (ADF) when it participated in the GEDSI Roundtable for the Clean Industrial Manufacturing for Promoting ASEAN Competitiveness and Transformation (C-IMPACT) Project on 12 March 2026 at Manhattan Hotel, Jakarta. Ms. Alfa Nur Aini, ADF Delegate to Attend the The roundtable was part of the C-IMPACT project, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) through the ASEAN-UK Green Transition Fund. As one of the flagship initiatives under the Fund’s clean and just energy transition pillar, C-IMPACT seeks to help ASEAN strengthen clean manufacturing, build local expertise, and foster regional collaboration so the region can remain globally competitive while advancing inclusive progress. During the discussion, experts from Climateworks Centre presented findings on gender equality, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI) in the context of industrial transformation. The conversation explored both the risks and opportunities of the green transition. Participants noted that without intentional inclusion, groups such as women and persons with disabilities could be left behind. At the same time, the shift toward clean industries offers a valuable opportunity to create more accessible jobs, strengthen inclusive policies, and build partnerships that ensure everyone can contribute. For ADF, the roundtable was an important reminder that disability inclusion must be part of ASEAN’s sustainability agenda from the start. A greener future will be more meaningful when persons with disabilities are not only considered beneficiaries, but recognized as active contributors to the region’s transformation.
