Jakarta, 7 – 9 May 2024 – STRATEGIC ISSUES
The ASEAN Disabilities Forum is a civil society forum of organizations of persons with disabilities in the Southeast Asia region that encourages the implementation of the ASEAN Enabling Masterplan 2025 Mainstreaming the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (AEM 2025) to be fully implemented with the direct involvement of groups with disabilities in every stage of its implementation monitoring and evaluation. The AEM 2025 is an ASEAN strategic work plan to promote and protect the rights of people with disabilities in ASEAN countries 2020-2025, ADF in its 2024 annual working meeting will prioritize evaluating AEM 2025, in particular responding to the Political Security community and Climate Change issues.
The study of climate change connecting with persons with disabilities is still minor globally, even in the region of Southeast Asia, the situation is less attention than in other areas in the world. Organizations of People with Disabilities (OPDs) in the Southeast Asia region are lagging behind in terms of climate change information compared to other regions such as Pacific, Europe and America. Notably, the OPDs pay no attention to climate change issues which have a significant impact on persons with disabilities life. On the other hand, most governments in Southeast Asia do not involve persons with disabilities in terms of policymaking. Therefore, the climate change policies in Southeast Asia regions cause persons with disabilities in left behind.
RESOURCE PERSONS
ADF in its target reviewing AEM 2025 will involve the ASEAN expert on Human Rights and political security, particularly those with experience in the AEM 2025 Journey of design and implementation, including the expert on Climate Change issues policies in the region.
